कभी कभी यूँ भी हमने अपने जी को बहलाया है

जिन बातों को ख़ुद नहीं समझे औरों को समझाया है

Sometimes I have entertained myself so

Have explained to others,What I do not know

हमसे पूछो इज़्ज़त वालों की इज़्ज़त का हाल कभी
हमने भी इस शहर में रह कर थोड़ा नाम कमाया है

Ask me of  prestige,stature and  fame

In this  city,even I have made some name

उससे बिछड़े बरसों बीते लेकिन आज न जाने क्यों
आँगन में हँसते बच्चों को बे-कारण धमकाया है

It’s been years now, since we have lived apart

Don’t know why I shouted at kids in the courtyard

कोई मिला तो हाथ मिलाया कहीं गए तो बातें की

घर से बाहर जब भी निकले दिन भर बोझ उठाया है

I met someone ,conversed, held my hand out in a hand shake

Whenever I went out though ,I felt as if I am carrying a weight
